I’m a big fan of the Writing Excuses podcast. It’s how I first discovered Mary Robinette Kowal‘s sage advice and wonderful fiction.
Recently I’ve been trying to brush up on my short story writing skills and was lucky enough to stumble across this brilliant guest lecture from Mary Robinette on writing short stories. She dives into the practicalities of using the M.I.C.E Quotient when writing. Orson Scott Card’s M.I.C.E. Quotient has been touched on in many Writing Excuses episodes, but this lecture (and writing exercise) really clicked it all into place for me.
I’m looking forward to going back over some of my older stories that are yet to find homes to see how successful or unsuccessfully I’ve structured them. Not only will the be a great tool for writing I think it’s going to be quite a handy framework for editing too.
Looking forward to daycare days this week so I can get stuck in!
